Eight Big Environment Events In 2017

A News Report By Guardian Takes A Look At Major Environmental Issues For The Year Ahead...

Environment made headlines in 2016. It will continue to do so in the year ahead. How far it will affect everyone globally only time will tell. Till then, here are the 8 environment events that could be big in 2017:

1- Fracking to begin

In Englad, 2017 will see exploratory fracking for shale gas. The first wells will be drilled in Lancashire and Yorkshire. Widespread protests might be in the offing as only 17% of people in Britain favour fracking.

2. Subsidies and nature laws will be hit

Brexit negotiations will hamper farming subsidies and all European nature protection laws. A rollback may see opposition.

3. Plan to combat air pollution

New plan to meet EU legal limits on air pollution will be on top radar as the government will propose plans to combat air pollution. From fully-funded clean air zones to tighter restrictions on vehicles and fuels, measures will be enhanced to adhere to EU legal limits.

4. Pledge to ban diesel vehicles

With Paris, Madrid, Athens, and Mexico City already pledging to ban diesel vehicles in the city, London will have to follow suit. The list of cities signing up to be fossil-free within 30 years is expected to grow as well.

5. Will Trump dump climate change?

With the US President-elect Donald Trump appointing all the climate sceptics to head his key agencies dealing with climate change, the global climate debate will rest on whether he will withdraw the US from Paris global agreement. It will be worthy to note how that step affects the US and the world in the long run.

6. The birth of La Nina

While El Nino saw the end in 2016, the coming year can expect a La Nina- cooling of Pacific Ocean waters. Consequently, there will be above average rainfall and cooler temperatures across the globe.

7. Loss in wildlife

Despite measures to tackle illegal trade and movement of animals in IUCN's red list of threatened species, there are several species that may face extinction. They include Bornean Orangutan, the South China tiger, the giant otter, Amur leopard, Darwin's fox, and the black-footed ferret.

8. Rise in marine protection

June will see the first UN oceans conference. Chances are the conference will focus on increasing the level of protecting the marine bodies and lives associated with it. It will ensure a curb on plastics polluting oceans, over fishing, climate change etc.

First of all to curb climate change at grassroots level we need to sensitise people in accordance of this apocalypse. Also certain steps on the Environment Frontier like installment of buffer zones and proper disposal of industrial waste, controlling the fumes and obviously curbing pollution need to be taken. The greenhouse gas emission also needs to be reduced. Definitely, making a new organisation to tackle with this issue of climate change can help to bring in improvements

According to me, we the people of this world can make a difference in the global climate whether its positive or negative difference. The best way to tackle negative difference is to sensitize people about different environmental issues in effective way.
