When Bollywood Wowed Hollywood

Priyanka Chopra

After portraying powerful roles in Bollywood, Priyanka Chopra managed to carve a niche in the West by making her presence felt in Hollywood in 2016. From her critically-acclaimed performance in US TV series ‘Quantico’ to her Hollywood debut ‘Baywatch’, the ‘Barfi!’ actress also stole many hearts at the Oscars party and as the  UN Goodwill ambassador.

The Jungle Book

Rudyard Kipling’s ‘The Jungle Book’, one of the highest grossers in both East and West too had a strong Indian connect. Several Bollywood actors including Priyanka Chopra, Irrfan Khan and Nana Patekar have given voice-overs for the movie.

Sonam Kapoor

Her father Anil Kapoor is already recognised in Hollywood. Now, it was daughter Sonam’s turn to follow her father’s footsteps. And she got it when Coldplay introduced Kapoor in their music video for the hit song ‘Hymn for the Weekend’ featuring Beyonce on their trip to India. Sonam also entered into a new partnership with US top agency, United Talent Agency in 2016.

Dhanush

South Indian actor Dhanush took everyone by surprise when he announced his debut Hollywood project. Tentatively named ‘The Extraordinary Journey Of The Fakir Who Got Trapped In An Ikea Cupboard’, the star is set to work opposite Pulp Fiction actress Uma Thurman.

Deepika Padukone

Deepika’s Hollywood dreams became a reality in a BIG way when she bagged  ‘xXx: The Return of Xander Cage’ opposite Vin Diesel. Slated to release in 2017, the first trailer that was released some time back is already grabbing headlines. The icing in the cake for the ‘Bajirao Mastani’ actress came when ‘Vanity Fair’ called her Hollywood’s next generation. And if reports are to be believed, the actress is gearing up to become the new Angelina Jolie of the West!
