TOIStudent Interview Stars

Actors Abhay Deol, Ali Fazal and Diana Penty were more than happy to answer to your queries. Here You Go! What would you say about the level and quality of Indian cinema?

What would you say about the level and quality of Indian cinema?

- NAVYA MALHOTRA, Swaraj India Public School

Abhay Deol: In my opinion, one should never compare cinema. There were good movies made then, there are good movies made now. With time, a lot of things have changed, evolved. Bollywood too has had its share of ups and downs, we have lost some legends while some others have stepped up to take their place. Personally, this is the golden phase in entertainment vis a vis, pay package, technological advances, global exposure etc. We can only get better from here.

Ali Fazal: We are living in exciting times my dear Navya! In the last decade we have introduced two new genres of cinema. Who had heard of cross-over movies before 2010? I think regional cinema has come of age. Bollywood is surprising us every Friday! All is well.

"Happy bhaag jayegi" as the name of the movie suggests, will put the audience into peals of laughter with the ''running away'' scenes! But my question is whether Diana is such kind of a person in both real life as well as her ''reel life'' as shown in the trailer? Is facing problem her way to deal with problem or running away from them?

Priyanshi Banerjee, Somerville school, Greater Noida

Diana Penty:  Ha ha! Thanks for your question Priyanshi. Yes HBJ is a laugh riot from start to finish. It will break some of our stereotypical notion about people from across the border as well. I am almost like the character I play on screen. I love adventures and won't settle down for anything just because. But, I have always faced problems head on! I don't believe in running away from problems because they will end up catching you.

I would like to ask my question to Diana Ma''am. How has your journey been from ''Cocktail'' to ''Happy Bhag Jayegi''? What were the difficulties that you faced? And which of the two is better in your opinion? And also what are the qualities of a good actor?

Kashish Verma, Bharti Public School Swasthya Vihar

Diana Penty: Hi. Will bore you with a cliched line - my journey has been a roller coaster. (Laughs) On a serious note, my learning curve has been on an upward spiral since Cocktail. I have been collecting memories and spending a lot of time with family. They are the actual treasure. I have also polished my dancing skills.

Every scene, every moment in front of the camera is a challenge. But once you have made up your mind to be in this industry, you should be ready to take everything on your stride. This attitude has worked in my favour.

My movies are like my siblings and I cannot choose among them. It was not easy for me to play the introvert, plain Jane in Coktail. Likewise, I wasn't very comfortable playing the total bindaas Happy in this movie. The more challenging roles that I get, the happier I am. It means I am in business!

I would like to know whether your film Happy Bhaag Jayegi can entertain people of all ages ???? Do You have a good reason to watch the movie and what moral does the film give us????

PS Geethanjali, Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan Sri Venkateswara vidyalaya,T

Abhay: I would like to think that HBJ is a movie for one and all. It is funny and philosophical just like that. A good reason to watch this film would be to get ehtertained! HBJ will teach you how not to be judgemental about people just because they hail from a different country/background/social strata.

Ali: HBJ is pure entertainmment for the entire family.

Diana Penty: It is not necessary that every film have a serious tone, a message for the society. Some movies say a lot of things without making a hullabaloo. HBJ is a simple story but carries a very important message.
