Alia On Difficulties Of Being Star Kid

It's not easy.

I absolutely hate it when people say, “You, star kids, you have it easy! Everything must have landed in a platter for you.” They assume that being a part of the film khandaan meant that we led surreal lives, that we got everything we demanded, and a plum career in acting awaited us no matter how badly we fared in academics. Also, that going abroad for studies was a given (with sponsored money, of course!). That our marriages are made in heaven...

I have dealt with all this in my school days, at college, at acting school – everywhere. Even when I landed my debut film, a lot of people ‘conjectured’ that I must have  bagged this big banner film because of my filmi background and because of daddy dearest. I was very hurt when critics slammed my acting in ‘Student Of The Year’. Everything I did in the movie was scrutinised and negative comments started flowing (I did get some compliments though). I slipped into a mini depression post this film because I didn’t know how to handle this pressure. I felt I had failed my parents. That I had committed some kind of a crime.

That’s when it struck me that acting is not a walk in the park, not for me, not for anybody! Let me make it very clear at the onset. It is not easy for anyone to cement a place in a film industry. No matter what your lineage is or where you are from or what your ideologies may be. One has to work hard to get success every single day. No one is allowed an off day in this industry.

Even if the concerned person is an Amitabh Bachchan or a Shah Rukh Khan. It is an unforgiving profession where you will be remembered for that one bad performance over 100 blockbusters!

Having said that, let me reiterate that it is much more difficult for actors from filmi families to establish themselves in similar industry (I am talking about in front of and behind the camera). Partly because there is humongous amount of pressure of performance and partly because the expectation (of the audience and parents) is just
gigantic!

Then there are media and public trials – if you fail to impress in one movie, you are branded an idiot! If you take up a role that is unconventional, you are pulled up straightaway. The media doesn’t take much time in dismissing you as a “failure” or a star kid who has no hope/ a bleak future. There are so many around us who have suffered the same fate only because one of their many movies didn’t do well.

So, let’s not dismiss this as just another “easy, breezy job” where all we do is have fun. It is as difficult, as demanding a job like yours. Nothing is ever served in a platter to anyone. nor do we lead “abnormal” lives so give us our due respect. And if you still think that being star kids gives us an upper hand, this will make you think again!

Not only this mam,As soon as step into industry they just peak into your personal life all the time.If there are two star kids launched at the same time there is indeed competition between them. So,If one movie of the other fails they say the second one is very good at acting and all good things. But they will never think about the first one.For example,You can take yourself and Shraddha kapoor''s as her one film got flop and yours were blockbuster everyone started praising you and left her.

I totally agree with this. nothing in this world is easy. Not even for the actors. They have to go through a lot of struggle in order to get hat they deserve. They have to be well dressed and well behaved at all times. So lets not consider this an easy job....

Jivishaa Pandit Gopi Birla Memorial School - Walkeshwar

I would oppose this as I think they need to have the potential and need to do handwork to get into this industry. It is not only that if parents are good actors their children will get the good films and so. We should not be considering this industry as an effortless job for star kids.
