What's New In Potter-verse

Just when you think you know everything about Harry potter and his magical world after finishing the series (or watching all the movies), JK Rowling drops another bombshell that shatters all expectations. Here are five of the best (and most surprising) insights she’s given us into Potterverse since Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.

1.  The despised and despicable Dolores Umbridge, who had an unabashed dislike for anything related to Muggles, is a half-blood (the child of a witch or a wizard and a Muggle) herself!

2. Our beloved ‘Boy Who Lived’ is not the original Harry Potter! Henry Potter (Harry’s great-grandfather) was, in fact, “Harry to his intimates” – a bit like Prince Henry of Wales. A descendant of Linfred of Stinchcombe (inventor of the Skele-gro Harry II is forced to consume in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets), Henry was as much of a believer in defending the helpless as Harry. Greatness clearly runs in the family.

3. You thought Azkaban (magical prison for evil witches and wizards) was a bad place to be? Wait till you hear its origin story!
This island in the North Sea was once the abode of Ekrizdis, a sadistic sorcerer who dabbled in dark magic and drew Muggle sailors there to torture and kill them. It remained hidden from all Muggle and magical maps by concealment spells until his death.

4. Gryffindor was not Neville Longbottom’s first choice as the house’s reputation of valor and bravery had intimidated him. He even asked the Sorting Hat to place him in Hufflepuff, but the Hat paid no heed to his requests. Aren’t we glad?

5. Perceptive readers would’ve seen this coming but for many of us it was a huge shock when Rowling confirmed that Lord Voldemort and Harry Potter are related by blood! They are, as a matter of fact, the descendants of two of the ‘Three Brothers’ (from old wizards' tales) Cadmus and Ignotus Peverell respectively. Cadmus’s resurrection stone eventually found its way into Voldemort’s hands as he believed it to be his birthright, and Ignotus’s invisibility cloak was passed on to Harry from Albus Dumbledore, who had been safekeeping it on Harry’s father’s behalf.

Q: Serious Potterheads know that these are only the tip of the iceberg. Tell us what else is new in the Potterverse. And yes, we all know how J K Rowling has apologised for killing off Snape's character. So that one doesn't count. Add in the comment section...
