Now You Can Run 1.5 Million Android Apps on Chrome OS

Google Play Store has finally reached Chrome. At the recent Google I/O 2016 developer conference, the company announced the entry of Android apps in Chrome OS . Users are already able to run some of the Android apps on Chrome OS, but now Google is bringing all the 1.5 million Android apps to the Chromebooks.

As Google wrote in a blog post, "This means you'll be able to download and use Android apps, so you can make a Skype call, work with Office files and be productive offline - or take a break with games like Minecraft, Hearthstone or Clash of Clans."

The company further adds in the post that not only this gives a boost to the Chrome OS but will also make it easy for developers to bring their apps on the OS without any need to roll out an update. While Google has announced the Play Store support in Chrome OS, it is not rolling out to users right away. It will first come to the Chrome OS dev channel in June with the release of M53.

The Google Play access in Chrome OS will first be hitting the Asus Chromebook Flip, the Acer Chromebook R 11 and the Chromebook Pixel (2015). Also, the Mountainview-based tech firm promises to bring Google Play to other Chromebook devices in future. Some of the partners that are already working to bring Android apps to their Chromebooks include Acer, Asus, Dell, Haier, Lava (Xolo Chromebook), HP, Lenovo, Samsung, Toshiba and more.

As Venturebeat reports it, the Google Play icon will be visible at the bottom left corner near the search icon. Users will also be able to bring their settings and app credentials from Android to the Chrome OS. The Google Play Store will be available on Chrome OS as an update. When the update reaches Chromebook devices, users will get a notification. They will be able to install the update once they accept the store's terms and conditions.

Multitasking also gets easier with Android apps on the Chrome OS. Users will be able to view the Android apps in three different window sizes, making it easy to work on different apps simultaneously. For those wondering, there won't be any changes coming to the existing Chrome Web Store.
