Google's Science Journal App Lets 'Anyone' Be A Scientist

There's nothing doubting the fact that science is amazing. It makes the world go around, including almost everything (both natural and man-made) in it. That said, there are quite a few of us (including yours truly) who are always curious about what's happening around them and like to tinker with things as well. If that's something you can also relate to, then Science Journal might just be the app you need. Google's Science Journal is an Android app that lets you perform basic science experiments, using nothing but your Android smartphone. The app utilizes the phone's built-in sensors (e.g. ambient light sensor, accelerometer) to measure and record data in real-time. Once that's done, it organizes the recorded data by plotting it into graphs and charts.

You can use Science Journal to create new scientific projects and use the phone's sensors to gather relevant information about them. In addition, there are numerous themed activities developed in collaboration with The Museum of Science, Art and Human Perception that can you can use to get started. These activities are based on topics such as sound and light.

Some of the activities require a basic kit of materials (e.g. sensors, controllers), and the app's information website lists direct shopping links for purchasing the same.
Science Journal lets you add photos and other observational notes while recording data to make the projects even better. The app is part of Google's 'Making & Science' initiative, aimed at budding scientists, researchers and in general, anyone curious.
