Youth Reporter V.Shravan had suggested that we discuss if our filmmakers are making the right kind of cinema. We take the debate further

In this generation, films and movies are the best source of entertainment for youths. I really feel that when movies and films are in such high demand, the film makers and directors should take the responsibility of making movies about the problems in the society. Af of now,  they are influencing the youths and the society in a negative manner by featuring a lot of violence in their movies which is not appropriate for the youth. 
They should make movies about the future.
I also think that they play an important role in tranforming the youth into good and useful citizens of our country. 
 
Let's start a discussion on the following points: 
  • What kind of films should be made? 
  • What is important — entertainment, information or a mix of both? 
  • Which are the films that come to your mind when you think of responsible cinema?
  • Are there enough youth centric films being made?

Films indirectly moulds the minds of the people. Many people prefer films that portray reality, which are often not a happy one, but I prefer films that portray what the ''Reality'' can be, if the attitude of the people change. I loved the movie ''3 Idiots'', because it had both humour and portrayed a problem faced by many people.

Well, I think that movies that will bring the true picture of our society should be made including both entertainment and information so that we can accept the foibles and follies of our society. There are very few youth centric films ever made in the Indian cinema. Cinema often pushes a common man in a world of fantasies, illusion and dreams. There should be entertainment along with a prominent message. All goodies in a movie wont make it acceptable for the people. Directors should drift away from the typical Bollywood movies with poor heros loving girls with rich dads. Things need to evolve with time. A current example of youth cinema is the movie Pink.

People make vulgar songs and movies because the audience watches it. The seller will make what the people buy, and you cannot blame them for that. It is up to us to decide what kind of movies we want to watch. If there are vulgar movies, there are also movies like Akira, Rustom, Airlift and Neerja, which present a message. We cannot blame the movie-makers for the inscreasing vulgarity in movies , because at the end of the day it is up to us what we take home.

Films which are inspirational and motivating should be highlighted and given extra importance to keep it on the run. However, unfortunately, we don''t have many youth centric films today. Films like ''Gandhi, 3 Idiots etc. should be promoted.
