Should We Emphasise Less On Grades?

To nurture entrepreneurship and innovation, Singapore schools are planning to reduce over-emphasis on grades. Should India follow suit? 


India should definitely follow in the footsteps of Singapore. There are no proper education facilities in most Indian villages, yet many villagers are doing fairly well in their rural enterprises. In fact, entrepreneurial skills are not defined by one's marks. All one needs is opportunity, courage and determination.

Grades are the tools that are given prime importance in a student's life. An entrepreneur is not afraid to take risks. A well-graded section of students is likely to end up in a no-risk occupation. India should take up a grading system that encourages the entrepreneurial spirit.

Some people are naturally intelligent, though their marks may not reflect that. 
They are innovative and capable of working hard. If the pressure to score high grades is removed, students will have a chance to perform well. The number of students going into depression over good marks will come down if demand for good grades is eased.

I believe that marks are not a measure of intelligence.You cannot whether a person is intelligent just by marks.The capacity to work hard and to know how to take failure in a positive way are more important.

Marks do not define one''s knowledge.It''s a combination of memorising powers,ability to stress your point and express the syllabe learning capacity.Marks do define one''s intelligence and success.They are just a way to measure child''s some particular qualities.They should not be given extra-importance.

We should not lay a lot of emphasis on grades. One''s intelligence power and smartness cannot be defined through grades. Grades limit a person''s view point. We should not run behind grades and we should also never mug up the answers just for the sake of getting first rank. Instead we should understand all our theories, answers,etc. and improve our knowledge through learning.

yes,we should emphasis less on grades because the students who get 99 marks and those who get 90 both of them get an A1 grade and grades can''t give the real result but percentage or marks can.

Grades are nothing more than a formality. They have became just a medium of differentiation of students. They do not explicate a child''s knowledge. And neither does it explicate a child''s skills. In main exams, 8-9 chapters are given together in every subject and the students are required to score after learning all the chapters. And the students ends up in ''ratafication''. So my point is we should not judge a student''s capacity on the basis of his/her marks.

A heavy reliance on grading loses track of learning objectives and processes. Assessments and feedback that measure learning should be paramount. I''ve yet to meet an educator who has developed a coherent system that combines heavy reliance on traditional grading with true measurement of learning.

We have recently observed that CBSE has brought back compulsion of boards in Class X. I am totally against it because in this 21st century people do not appoint jobs just by looking at their academic performance , they give priority to the one who has good level of communication , participation in various activities in their respective schools , that can be only done if the school encourages students to be a part of various co curricular activities and boards clearly specifies academic grades.
