Should Political Contributions Be Capped?

Election Commission has called for banning of anonymous contributions above Rs.2,000 to political parties. Do you think this will curb black money funding elections?

The move will go a long way in making our electoral system more transparent. However, to make it more effective, government should come up with a new law. Violators should be penalised. More important, people’s cooperation is the key to make such bold moves a success.

By slashing down the limit for incognito contributions, a large part of anonymous contributions may decrease. Political parties should be encouraged to carry out all transactions via banks, cheques or cards so that there is official trail of all transactions.

Political parties often under the garb of election funding accept black money from donors. This move will help check that trend. Even though there exists a bigger nexus, when it comes to black money handling, this move is in the right direction and will go a long way in cleaning the system.

Many times we see that a lot of unaccounted cash being used during the elections by political parties. Therefore to bring in greater transparency in funding of elections and also to check the growing corruption this legal tender stands justified. This move by EC will pave towards healthy and fair elections without circulation of black money

This is yet another efficient step initiated by the commission to curb black money and prevent any sort of corruption far and wide. So, if they do keep working this hard then a corruption- free India shall not be quite far off from our thoughts and efficacious results would certainly be obtained.
