Ishika Jain: Does School Detention Do Any Good to Students?

How school detention affects varies from student to student. Some students takes it seriously and some just wastes their time and such punishments makes no difference to them. However, in my opinion, school detentions are important because it makes students realise their mistakes and their flaws and follies. It helps them develop a good behavior. Detentions can be made beneficial and productive. Teachers can provide support to students by helping them with their queries and by giving them extra classes.

The main aim of the detension is to is instill self-realization feeling in the student for what he or she has done so I think that the detension when given keeping this spirit in mind then it is fine otherwise it also depends on what kind of detension you are giving so if you are too extremist it will not be good for the child but leniency can erase the fear and good values among children and an attitude of taking everything lightly can develop.

No, it just doesn''t. It only makes most kids hate school even more, make them be more rebellious and hate school even more. There are better ways of dealing with students than detention. School cannot be a jail.

Prakash.B Bethel Mat Hr Sec School

No actually it causes us many defects only.... And nearly 20% of students commit suicide due to detention.... And many of students good character are ruined... And they are not just able to expose their talents....

No i don''t agree with you Ishika , some children love to be detained ao that they can bunk the class with the knowledge of the teachers .

Bhavana Jaison Atomic Energy Central School No 2

Today teachers are not allowed to detain any child . Children have to be send for counseling secession and its the teachers duty to see that the child is improving .In todays education system teachers are burdened from every side .

Manan Ahuja INDIAN PUBLIC SCHOOL

No,it wont do any good and it wont help teachers making students realise their mistakes ..It will turn into a case were students will be suffering from these tortures likely in some cases. It will make students hate school and some may also undergo depression and commit suicide. It will spoil their career

Nishi Upadhyay BHARTI PUBLIC SCHOOL (SWASTHYA VHR)

detention policy should be accompanied with proper management to ensure the development of children who are left behind.

JIYA TOMAR B G S NATIONAL PUBLIC SCHOOL

I do accede to this because after all around 55% of the times a child is being given detention, it is for a real cause and not crassly to make them a fool out of themselves. This is usually on to aid them to realize the ambiguous and at times precise flaws that hamper their education as well as their personalities.

School is a place where students are moulded to face the society in a courageous, truthful and a responsible outlook. It is the"SECOND HOME" of students. It is not just a place where well-behaved and studious students function but a cocktail of preppies who are destined in different directions.Detention is a complete contradict to the basic objective of a school.

S.VIDHYAALAKSHMI SHREE NIKETAN MAT -

Students should not be detained rather they can be punished severely.

V.Ananya D.A.V. Public School

Making students idle away their time in the name of detention does good to no one . Teachers must talk to them and try to help them with their problems , instead .

Brenda Marshal PADUA HIGH SCHOOL-MANKHURD

It will actually be an ego hurting moment but I will support it. In our time this new generation we actually don''t have. But my dad used to say that they had detention classes in their time. Yes I do think that it is good for the education of the students.

Cherub Singh CARMEL CONVENT SCH SEC 9 CHD

Though school is a great place to develop proper behavior and values reinforced through detentions, it can turn regimental and fail to understand the unique personalities of students. Detentions can make students run away from subjects they find tough. Detentions are right for improper behavior, but should not compromise developing an understanding of the child.

seriously guys? do u really support this?Detentions are not really helpful. It just increase the hatred of students against the schools.

Anmol Thaker RCTS PMM Rotary School, Ambernath

It makes students to realise their mistake It''s true that detention stops the most behaving students. It make them to realise their mistake and make them to think about it. It will make much change in the behaviour of the students in school. I also think that teachers shouldn''t excuse the children who misbehave and should strictly punish them Report Post

Vaibhav Bhatnagar BHARTI PUBLIC SCHOOL (SWASTHYA VHR)

Every student has his or her dreams in their respective lives . It is not necessary that it must be in Academics it could be in other fields too. So punishments like detentions are of no use in such cases rather the school should respect their interests and talents and mould them in a masterpiece . I would rather consider Detention as force - studies which are of no use till full determination is given .

Teaching them life education If you dont have any detention at school or some type of punishment then what will be the process of changing . If we dont at least try to punish them for there not well being then they will never change regardless of the situation. We should involve some type of counselling to try to change there mind or life too.

This just does not work in today''s generation. Getting detention from school may make few kids so happy and free of all the burdens of school, if they had any. To make a student realize what are his/her mistakes, it is very important to think of another way by just isolating him/her, making the student feel even worse and lonely. Detention is not the way out to this problem.

Aditi Sahi D C MODEL SCH PKL-SEC-7

No, in my opinion it doesn''t because those students who have no interest in studies will not be affected by any punishment.

MISHI JAIN HAPPY SCHOOL(DARYAGANJ)

some students get happy when they get detention.they say that now we will enjoy our holidays.

Vihan R. Yalamanchili DDMS P.OBUL REDDY PUBLIC SCHOOL

I don''t think so. Detentions ruin students'' lives. They significantly lower one''s self-esteem and sets him apart from his peers. Detentions can ruin students'' reputation and humiliate them. Teachers should help by giving extra classes to struggling students so that they can at least pass with a good grade.

Sarath Kumar RM Bethel Mat Hr Sec School

Detention can help the students to clear their queries and to develop themselves.

KAVYASRI R M Bethel Mat Hr Sec School

I don''t think so. Detention will lead students hate the school life and it would certainly spoil their education.Instead counselling sessions can be conducted for their development.

SAROJINI.G Amalorpavam Higher Secondary School - Puducherry

Detention makes the student so stressed and because of that they make wrong decisions.Instead counselling for all students is to be made compulsory.Detention will increase their ego .

Payal Taparia BHARTI PUBLIC SCHOOL (SWASTHYA VHR)

Today students just don''t care if they got detained or not .For them it''s a ''fun'' time . Schools should introduce councils or some severe punishments .

Haya Naved FATHER AGNEL SCHOOL(GAUTAM NAGAR)

I support the detention policy. I feel detention helps a child realize his mistakes and weaknesses and gives him another chance to improve. Promoting a child to the next class even though he is not capable of doing well in that class. Students who are not good should not be promoted rather given extra classes and extra attention to make them improve.

Navomi J.M. INTERNATIONAL SCH00L

School detention is necessary as it primarily aims to discipline children. Discipline means learning and obeying a code of conduct. School discipline instills a sense of responsibility in children. As it''s said, regulated behavior is key to success, progress and prosperity. Discipline inculcates self control, tolerance, obedience and orderliness in an individual. In the absence of it, chaos and a state of perplexity is created.

Noodhan gowrishankar Bethel Mat Hr Sec School

I vote 50-50. Coz on one side it causes lack of selfconfidence and the urge to take risks. On that aspect it is bad. But on other side it makes him realise his mistake and prevent him from commiting further mistakes.

Arun Sk Bethel Mat Hr Sec School

if you see from the students side, they consider detention as a burden and extra work but not as a way to realise their self

Gautam Kanekar SHRI SHRI RAVI SHANKAR SCH- BORIVAL

School detention can sometimes bring about discipline and if teachers prove to be a supportive working hand comforting the students then it can prove to be much more beneficial . But if it goes on for a student frequently , it means he isn''t affected by it . Things are conditional . A student living very near the school might not even bother to go for a detention for the day .

Swaleha Ansari Padua High School , Mankhurd

In our school teachers are not allowed to detain students so they used to complain their parents as they believe parents are best as well teacher for them.

No I Don''t Support U Ishika.Detain can''t improve student''s intead of that it build''s vulgur and nonsense things about that particular teacher. And started to disobey the oders and this thing''s make''s a student to join bad compannies or create a bad company.

Mythili Iyer Greenwood High

Detention is not important as you just have to sit in the principals'' office and just do work the teachers tell you. The only thing which makes students fear is suspension or expulsion as you have to leave school for a few days or forever. It is better to be lenient than punish students.
