Is Virat The Best Batsman In The World?

When Virat Kohli is on song, he is unstoppable. The Indian captain on Friday added another feather to his already illustrious cap, notching up his 26th Test century during Day 2 of the second Test against South Africa at Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune.

SCORECARD

Kohli, who took over the Test captaincy from MS Dhoni in 2014, also became the first Indian to score 40 international centuries as skipper. Kohli now has 19 Test centuries and 21 ODI centuries under his belt as captain.

Australia legend Ricky Ponting has the most international hundreds - 41 - as captain. Former South Africa captain Graeme Smith is third with 33 tons, while former Australia captain Steve Smith is fourth in the tally with 20 international centuries as captain.

Inzamam scored 25 centuries in 120 Tests (200 innings), while Kohli brought up his 26th Test ton in his 81st Test (138th innings).

With 26 Test tons, Kohli has now joined the likes of West Indies legend Gary Sobers and Australia’s Steve Smith on the list of most Test centuries.

Sachin Tendulkar is sitting on top of the elite list with 51 centuries to his name. Tendulkar played 200 Tests (329 innings) and scored 15921 runs at an average of 53.78.

With this knock, the 30-year-old Kohli also went past former cricketer Dilip Vengasarkar in the run-scoring chart. Vengasarkar had 6,868 runs to his credit. Kohli is now at the 53rd place in the all-time list of leading run-scorers in Tests.

There are three Indian batsmen in the top 10 of the most Test centuries list.

Rahul Dravid (36 centuries) and Sunil Gavaskar (34 centuries) are the other two Indian batsmen on that list.
