Is India Heading Towards A Football Boom?

A football boom is waiting to happen in India, says FIFA chief. What is your reaction?

Even though football as a sport has been around for a long time in India, it has seen a sudden surge in the past few years, thanks to the Indian Super League format. Indian soccer fans who follow a Messi, Ronaldo or a Rooney, fail to cheer for their own countrymen. Just like cricket we all need to support and promote our footballers too.

In India, the sport which always grabs people’s attention is cricket. However, our country is has talent in this game too. What’s lacking is infrastructure and will power. If Indian footballers get due attention, they too can be on top of the leaderboard.

It will be amazing to see FIFA’s presence  in India. With India hosting its first ever U-17 FIFA World Cup event, it will definitely open new opportunities for our young soccer players. By making tailor-made projects and setting up training centres for youngsters, India too can make considerable strides in football.

Football is second most popular sport in India. After U-17 FIFA World Cup, which India is hosting, there will be a huge rise in the number of football fans. More and more Indians will get attracted to football and may be it will become India''s most popular sport leaving Cricket behind.

No,I fully agree with the goverment''s argument that ''''black money doesn''t became white just because it is deposited in a bank account''''.However, if the purpose was to bring money back into the banking system ,the same would have been achieved by Demonetisation.

The FIFA U-17 World Cup is, by its very definition, a stepping stone for young footballers to experience what the global stage feels like, Today, as we count down towards the kick-off of the FIFA U-17 World Cup in October, India is fortunate enough to have this youth tournament as a valuable spotlight shining right over its development plan

as you all know that our country INDIA is a very vast country including wide array of sports so I think that now that we have cricket ,Kabbadi , it will be a great idea to introduce football in INDIA so I think its a great idea

I must say that our country is pretty ''dominated'' by sports like cricket in specific. Although we do play a great role and in fact show profound interest in games like Badminton , Kabbadi, Tennis, Chess etc. , football still seems to lag in this race of popularity and fan- following. But definitely with an umpteen number of leagues coming up in India , it is gaining momentum and is certain to perish.

The Fifa U-17 world cup has given the country a big boost towards football. We are now seeing a lot of schools giving in active participation for football tournaments. I believe that some day or the other, Football will overtake Cricket in terms of most followed sport.
