Harini's Take On Universities Banning Social Media

DU has banned social media from its campus. Should other Indian universities follow suit?

It’s human nature, the moment you impose a ban, craving for the same increases. So, banning social media will not increase efficiency and attention, instead it will distract students.
Nihal Jani, class IX Sakar School, Ahmedabad

Nowadays social media is no longer just for forging friendships and uploading pictures. It is also a means to showcase your work, notify people about fests and make any other announcement that will attract huge crowds.
Nandini Chatterjee, class IX, Chinmaya Vidyalaya, New Delhi

Universities should not impose this ban. Once a student has passed high school and entered college life, his/her learning is not completely based on course books. Some aspects which really matter are mental aptitude and general knowledge, which only social media can provide constantly.

No this step shouldn''t ne initiated by the universities. Social media not only means chatting with the friends or uploading your photographs,it''s way broader and times aids in gaining beneficial knowledge too.

Harini MS NAGARJUNA VIDYANIKETAN

Social media is a beautiful source of knowledge, current affairs, and communication. Students learn more from social media rather than books. But that''s obvious. I''d like to add that students these days don''t get enough entertainment through TV, they don''t get enough time - no one would keep switching between studies and TV every 2-5 minutes. Social Media is a great source of entertainment in a limited period of time.

University should not ban social media. It''s a platform that gives people to express their views and get necessary guidelines, support and help from people with similar thoughts.

NAVYA MALHOTRA SWARAJ INDIA PUBLIC SCHOOL

No , universities should not do this .Just imagine the inactive youth of our country. The youth should be made aware of the politics in our country and not cut off from the mainstream .They have the power to influence by their words and social media is the best place . We have to prepare the country .Politics is not bad but the youth needs to take the charge.

Usage of social media can be restricted in universities. Putting a ban can lead to complete isolation with families and friends. Social media can be limited to certain time slots .

Himanshi Dhawan Saffron Public School

No, other Indian universities should not follow this suit. Every coin has two faces and so does social media. Social Media has positive aspects too. Students can write blogs, can take assignments, can make communities in which they can discuss some latest issues and many more. Being on social media, one can enhance his personality and can become an enlightened citizen of this country.

No,I don''t think that universities should completely ban social media. It should be limited to specific time slots and should not be allowed to use in certain places like library and corridors.

Avni Jain FR AGNEL MULTI PURPOSE SCHOOL

Cutting social media from a students life means him or her from the outside world. Social sites is a gateway to many interesting and knowledgeable matters occurring outside a campus or an university. If this step is taken then the students won''t get any entertainment which will lead them to take away their attention from studies.

What is the use of banning social medias? Today it''s a source of information and media to share our views on various issues. No one has the right to instruct an individual not to use the social medias, especially in a democratic country.

Universities should definitely not ban the social media as it can be a medium of freshness to the students. After so much hard work and pressure due to studies the students need something to get fresh. Social media can be a medium to vanish all the stress on students.

In today''s world social media is a great source of information.its not only for chatting but it helps us to get knowledge, yes it is distracting but control on ourselves and counseling can help in not letting social media distract us

Vaishnavi S NAGARJUNA VIDYANIKETAN

Social media is very useful for students. But it should be used in the right way. This ban will not work out because, the students tend to look for other ways to use them in the campus. DU should lift this ban.

Social media may cause distractions in the minds of students. Apart from that students have many things to learn from it. It gives them more information and knowledge about their subjects and also helps them to think in different ways.

Banning social media in universities is not a great idea because if social media will be banned student will look some other resources and they will waste lot of time in this

AMRITHAVALLI.S Bethel Mat Hr Sec School

They should see even the other side of social media . It has its own pros and cons . It updates every individual . Social media rise any burning issue . Any hot news spreads viral in social media . It is out of their own willingness they use it . no one has the right to ban it .

Dhruvi Moliya Hillwoods school

Ithink there should be a period or specific time in universities for using phones.

Archisha Ghosh VIDYA VALLEY

This ban should not be on the move in universities as it will not make the students have more concentration and attention but instead it will divert the students on how to protest against the ban. Nowadays it is not only for chatting, posting images, but it is also used to spread some news, make aware about what is happening around you. This is a place where you can even be happy too!

A.Shajitha Fathima Bethel Mat Hr Sec School

It''s right that social medias should be banned in universities, because it will spoil the studies. If the education spoilt, then the career would spoil.
