Extra Marks For Planting A Sapling Is A Good Idea?

In the wake of North Delhi Municipal Corporation (civic body) offering five extra marks for students of classes 4 and 5 in social studies for planting a sapling, give your opinion on what OTHER SUCH INITIATIVES (eg working with NGOs, helping another person learn, taking part in a clean-up drive, researching outdoors at museums/ workshops and gathering material for a project) according to you should be marked by schools and why?

Do You Think Schools Should Encourage Evaluation Basis Other Acitivities Like Working With NGOs Etc? What Other Activities You Suggest Can Be Marked?

Comments

Vanshika Tandon QUEEN MARY''S SCHOOL MAYUR VHR-1

Alas, now the social work is also marks oriented! I completely disagree with this move. In the short run, this might seem to be useful, but will surely be an unsuccessful move in the long run. Children will learn nothing out of this, they will just learn to run behind marks. Young pupils will get no values and will never realise the true need of growing plants. This should be abandoned immediately, awarding marks for social work is like bribing children!

Hemalatha.G Sethu Bhaskara Matriculation Higher Secondary Scho

I''m not completely okay with it. Vanshika is right. We would learn to run behind marks. But it is encouraging as students will learn social consciousness. Involving students in such activities are necessary. But alloting marks even for that will make them understand the importance of marks than the activity they do. They can opt something different.

JOMILIN JOHN ST.ANTHONY'S SR.SEC SCHOOL

I really support this motion. One basic thing that we must understand is that students should get a chance to explore the world out from their books. We learn and understand concepts not just to get marks rather to implement it or practice in our day to day life. This sort of evaluation is truly acceptable in all aspects because here we are encouraging the younger generation to learn and explore through their action.Students should be asked to make a report on what they explored .

Arnav Mathur BGS National Public School

Well the idea is good as it will increase both, student''s marks as well as the greenery around us the air the students will breathe will be fresh and full freshness

manisha choudhary Sree Narayana Vidya Bhavan

all the people should plant a tree and pour the water daily and take care of there plant Each one plant one

Manasi Pardeshi Army Public School Dighi

In my opinion, tempting kids to plant a tree for extra marks is wrong since when it comes to taking care of your environment, you do it because you like it, and not because you want to score good in your academics. Such an initiative is good, until and unless it provokes the feeling of ''love for nature'' and not ''love for marks''.#Go Green

Snehil Chaturvedi City Montessori School Phase II, Gomtinagar

As I think, Giving extra marks is the best way to encourage a child, And if from childhood the habit is their it will help a lot.

Abdullah Hashir Ahmed Brilliant Grammar High school

Ok, it’s a good idea, but what will the students get out of it? Just marks! Nothing else, I totally disagree with the idea. Instead implementation of moral values and the prevention of deforestation should take place. It just adds marks and also some work for the parents.

Yuvraj Belani The Millennium School, Lucknow

this move has both a plus and a minus point. first of all the students would plant saplings and take care of them. as this is an advantage to environment this move also spoil the children''s moral values. they all would be greedy for marks. environmental work like this would not be clear to the students and the run for academic improvement would be practiced by the pupils rather chasing knowledge.

Vidisha DAV PUBLIC SCHOOL

Yes school should encourage evaluation on basis of other activities. because it will encourage students to connect with environmental and this will lead to environment protection. Other activities like cleaning environment and saying no to plastic can also be included

Ujwal Kc RMS INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL

I totally disagree with this move at this stage of period. Every student in this period of era race behind the marks. By this student can get marks easily rather than gaining knoledge and scoring marks. Though, sum instance it is the better move to create good environment. It makes student lack in knoledge, studies.

Aishwarya Iyer Deens Academy

Yes, I too disagree with this move. By planting saplings and working in the benefit of the environment we are not doing any obligation. Its is one''s duty. And for your duty, you need not be rewarded in such ways. Tempting students by giving extra marks is totally unacceptable. Planting saplings is something everyone can do and in the current world where we have to do more of it, it is nothing meretorius but merely duty.

Aryaman Kumar Ryan International School

Not a good idea considering marks are based on the students academics and thus cannot be related to social work .Instead of marks a small award should be given to the student.

PRATYUSHA DASGUPTA D.A.V. PUBLIC SCHOOL,NEW PANVEL

It is truly amazing to know that schools are encouraging pupils to engage into social works by rewarding them marks. Some students might be lending a hand to these activities for only the sake of increasing their scores, but, later in life, they will understand the importance of these co-curricular activities, which will influence their personality development to a great extent.

Bharti Sharma Shri Shikshayatan School

Absolutely!Every school should adopt this method. Why just keep education bind to books?Lets spread it through other methods as well. Not just marks help in building a good character but such activities do.I wish all schools across the globe appreciate this good effort.

Ronit.R National Hill View Public School

This is a right move as this will make students work towards protecting the environment and also care about society .But students while doing these should be reminded that they are not doing these only for the sake of getting marks but contributing towards the betterment of society

K.Sandeepkumar Bethel Mat Hr Sec School

This is a good idea. It''ll slightly reduce global warming.

Antara Bose Shri Shikshayatan School

I don''t think it is a good idea. Marks in planting a sapling? In school, it''s ok but outside it is not possible. Moreover the students will lack the importance of planting trees. So it is not at all a good move...

SPARSH DELHI PUBLIC SCHOOL(VASUNDHRA)

Yes, it is a good step as it would give a chance to students to explore the world out of their books. It would also encourage students to plant trees and contribute to their environment. We learn new things to implement not to get marks. This would also prevent global warming and promote greenery. This evaluation would also help the students to learn and explore themselves. So, it a good step for promoting greenery. # Promoting greenery.....

Harshit Kumar Lucknow Public School, Unnao

we all are aware of the fact that a school is a second journey to increase knowledge of a child after his or her parents. what they learn from their school will be their habit if the whole environment will do the same. we don''t no any language of communication when we take birth. what everyone speaks and do we learn the same. So, most of the time child spends his or her time in school and when the school will do activities and aware the benefit of NGOs the child will learn the same.

tehzeeb THE GURUKUL PKL-SEC-20

In my opinion this initiative is not the best the Delhi corporation could do . Though it incourages the students to plant saplings but at the same time it creates a feeling of doing all one can do to grab marks rather than doing all one can do to protect the environment .

Sy. Anam Raaz N.H. English Academy

Yes. It''s actually a very good idea to motivate the students in such an interesting way! Students will feel better to do this task of planting saplings for they would be happy to get extra marks without much efforts.

Keerthan Shenoy Sri Aham Aathma Vidyalaya

I really support this idea.Yes, Pupils would run behind marks. But the students gets encouraged and motivated and plants a sapling in fear of marks. Students should be involved in social activities. This activities will promote greenery.

shubhra RUKMINI DEVI PUB. SCHOOL(PITAMPURA)

yes indeed this is a good idea. through this the students will made at least some contribution towards environment. In this hustle and bustle life we forget to care about nature

Palak Aggarwal Arwachin International School

Ya! Its a good idea because kids with social mind could achieve their goals .and to get more marks kids will grow more plants which will save our earth

Manish Gogoi KV NAL CAMPUS

Yes , In my opinion I feel that this is a nice way of promoting greenery . However I feel it would be better if the move is equipped with them the importance of their act .

N Rishab The Schram Academy

This is completely useless, according to me. The children will only learn to run behind marks. They will never understand anything.

Gagana M D SCHOOL VIVEKANANDA SAHAKARANAGAR

Sounds like a good move, but the essence of tests and exams will be lost.Surprisingly i don''t find a perfect place to sow seeds(except the garden). When we are advised to plant plants, we should also be told "Where to plant"

daksh sharma Sachdeva Public School

No , because students who are intelligent but cannot work or plant a sapling would get less marks otherthan those who are poor in studies but are good in sports will get more marks . And it will be discrimination . Instead students getting less marks should plant a sapling .

Kenneth Lobo SHALOM HILLS INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL

Didn''t we all see flaws in the CCE pattern of education due to the allotment of marks on the basis of activities. Marks are something which are earned and deserved not given for the sake of giving it. So, I feel that it won''t be a good move.
