It was one of the questions posed to the contestants during the Miss Universe pageant by comedian and host Steve Harvey. Now the same question is in your court.

After Meryl Streep used the Golden Globe stage to voice her opinion on Trump presidency, it was the turn for Miss Universe 2016 pageant to add to the heat. And it rightly did so when TV host and comedian Harvey asked Miss Thailand, "Given today's worldwide refugee crisis, do countries have an obligation to accept refugees or do they have the right to close their border?" The 65th edition of the pageant raised global issues that need attention, including Donald Trump presidency and the ban on refugees.

With Trump implementing fresh ban on refugees from Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen, questions are being raised on Trump's wisdom on 'one-world'. But there is other side to this debate:

Are the countries under some kind of obligation to ban refugees. Whether a country accepts refugees or not should be their independent decision, right or not? Register to post your comments

Its totally right. A country can''t be forced to accept refugees. Country comes first doesn''t it?

What makes humans different from the rest of organisms is their ability to think wise, take decisions and help fellow beings.A person becomes a refugee not because of his or her fault.Accepting refugees is definitely the country''s decision. It depends on your concern for mankind and where the future of the world is heading towards.

Yes its purely right because every country is free and independent of themselves and no can be like that forced to accept the refugees as the people of that country have their own freedom and their own rights.

It''s okay that the refugees are human beings ,but each country has there own independent decisions to accept the refugees as each country thinks on it''s security and many other aspects . So no country should forced to accept refugees.

Every two people are alike and so is in the case of countries. It''s the independent decision of countries to accept refugees or not. Some may find them as a catalysts in the development of the country while some feel that they will act detrimental to their country. So, I feel that no such talisman exists among the countries as far as the case of refugees is concerned

A country cannot be forced to accept refugees. But if the country in question is developed and has no crisis, I don''t see why refugees have to be banned. It is basic humanity isn''t it?

I personally don''t feel that it is imperative for a country to accept refugees. It''s their own country and they have the full discretion to allow or deny entry rights to any refugee.
