Can There Ever Be Reservation In Cricket?

Union minister of state for social justice Ramdas Athawale has made a strange demand - he wants SC, ST reservations in the Indian cricket team. What’s your take?

I feel reservation of any kind should not be encouraged, be it in the field of education or sports. The Union Minister’s demand can be understood as his stance on justice and equality. However, I believe instead of reservations, selections should be done on basis of merit, eligibility and individual talent.

I think allowing reservation in any sporting body would be the worst ever thing to happen to games. Sporting abilities and skill should be only parameters to judge and select a cricketer. Anyway, I don’t think the Indian sporting teams are holding people back on the basis of their caste.

Reservation in sports is a ridiculous idea. Sportspersons have to display their talent and hard work to win matches and accolades. There is no special place that you can occupy in sports based on your caste or creed. There can be no room for reservation in sports, whatsoever.

Be it sports or any other place reservation means complete hindrance of talent and merit and giving place to someone just for his caste. I feel that this kind of system will not only reduce talented players in team but also clog the opportunities for emerging youngsters. This will be totally an unfavourable decision

Though reservations is a good idea, but many misuse it and take it for granted . In that case including it in sports would be a joke. A sportsperson is one who has stamina, willpower overall talented and hardworking. More over the deserving people will be denied. SADHANA VIJAYAKUMAR, 10 C, K V MEG & CENTRE

Reservation in sports is really a hysterical thought. In sports or any other field the thing that matters the most is talent and hard work. If there would be reservation in cricket in India , the indian cricket team would be the worst team ever .

Be it education, jobs or sports history has shown that reservations have devastating consequences. Cricket is an game of skills and abilities. One who has the caliber and right skills plays. And if reservation will be done in cricket then I feel the tables will turn for team India as then those with higher reservation criteria be it a non-gamer also will be seen playing for the country.

Reservation in not only cricket but for the matter any other sport will hinder in the overall development of the sport .It will also be unfair to the young talented sportpersons who will not get a chance to play due to this reservation system .I feel that reservation of all sorts should not be encouraged in our country.

The caste which was considered as lower one in previous generations came up. So they don''t need reservations. It drags the opportunity of people with great talents. If reservation is allowed even it sports where real talents are displayed, there''ll be more politics. So I feel it is not good.

This would be the silliest reform in the present times.Reservation of any kind should be banned. Why not talent be the judge rather than social status? One time people say equality of status should be promoted and on the other hand they bring out such ideas! Why consider someone General or SC/ST?Start considering talent the only basis for selection.

I think that Mr. Athawale is sort of right and sort of wrong . Reservations can be made in crickt acadamies but not in the team as it does not matter if you are poor or not .It matters about the skill.

Reservations already in colleges and government jobs are bad enough, but the idea of reservations in Indian Cricket team is laughable. They should be selected on the basis of their willpower, stamina and talent not their birth name.

Reservations for SC/ST and other backward castes in the Parliament is necessary in order to hear their voice. But reservations - anywhere else - is unacceptable as other sportsmen who otherwise may be better in playing will not get a chance, while a mediocre Dalit cricketer will represent India on the field. ~ Ruhaan Chand, Class VIII, St. Andrews School

NO, THERE SHOULD NOT BE RESERVATIONS IN CRICKET OR ANY OTHER THING IN THIS WORLD AS IF THEY ARE BAD THEY CAN SPOIL OUR COUNTRY''S REPUTATION.

I am currently in the 12th std and I am getting to know the reservation system better, as I have to write entrance exams. It is easy for people like us living in the city to say that reservations are not needed. But in reality, our country is still rural and upliftment of the lower castes is still needed. It would have been better if this system was based on income and financial status of the individual''s family. In cricket also , we should not do partiality and give reservations here also.
