Feeling sad, happy or angry? Do you know certain foods can improve your mood? Food and happiness are actually inter-related. These foods not only uplift your mood but also help to improve memory. They are loaded with micro-nutrients that release certain feel good hormones in the brain. It has been rightly said that you are what you eat. While heavy foods make you sluggish, tired and depressed, there are certain foods that make you feel light and energetic. Read to know more about these foods that can instantly make you happy!

Dark chocolate
Dark chocolate is a good source of antioxidants, which helps in the reduction of stress hormone cortisol. It is loaded with a chemical called polyphenols which instantly uplift the mood

Walnuts

Walnuts are rich in antioxidants, proteins and selenium which have mood-alleviating properties. It is also rich in Omega 3 fatty acids which increases brain function and combats depression.

Turmeric
Turmeric is known for its anti-inflammatory properties. A compound called curcumin found in turmeric helps in lowering the risk of depression and helps in maintaining a happy mood.

Salmon
Salmon contains omega-3 fatty acids that can improve your mood and alleviate depression.

Quinoa
Flavonoid called quercetin found in quinoa has anti-depressant effects.It is a complex carb that helps in improving your mood.


Berries
Certain flavors in berries like blueberries, raspberries and strawberries have a chemical similarity to valproic acid which is a mood-boosting drug. Flavonoid like anthocyanidins and anthocyanins help in reducing inflammation, depression and stress.

Banana
Eating banana is the best way to keep oneself happy because of its high levels of tryptophan which converts into serotonin for happy moods. It is packed with potassium which gives instant boost in your mood amd makes you feel energetic.
